Better with Thyme Sunshine-PP, 43 inches, A2A2 BB BB, 3.5 gallons per day
Last updated October 2026
Sunshine is a third generation cow in our Mini Jersey herd. When she was born we were so happy to have a heifer from her dam Starlight! Sunshine is just as sweet as her dam and grand dam, Moonbeam, but with a dash of sass and love of human attention from her sire. So far, she is our most “in your pocket” Mini Jersey and we love how much she loves us and follows along with our lead.
Sunshine’s pedigree is predominantly Holterholm and Misty Morning Farm. Both bloodlines of small Jersey cows she comes from have been bred for grazing, A2 milk, polled and smaller stature. Holterholm cows average 6,000 pounds per year (2.42 gallons per day), 5.2% butterfat and 3.8% protein.
Sunshine had her first calf at the end of June 2025. She took to milking very well, after the first 24 hours – before that she was a nervous, hormonal first time mama. I am so glad that didn’t last, and starting on day 2 I was able to walk up and milk her right in the pasture with no lead or stanchion at all. Sunshine peaked at 3.5 gallons per day, which was a record for a first freshener in our herd and her bull calf was a voracious nurser, so we decided to give her the year off in 2026 to build up her reserves while we focused on having more of our older cows calve. Sunshine is expecting her second calf in the spring of 2027.
