Magpie ducks are friendly, active foragers who lay a very good number of large eggs. In our experience, they use a nesting box more than other duck breeds and lay eggs longer into the fall season than other breeds.

We expect to ship Magpie hatching eggs within 1-2 weeks during peak hatching season (March through June).

Product Description

After many years of raising several different breeds of ducks we decided starting in 2024 to focus on the beautiful and friendly Magpie ducks. We love their beautiful black and white cap and saddle pattern, their friendly personalities, how well they forage and the large number of eggs we collect from them throughout the spring, summer and even into the fall. Our Magpies lay their eggs first thing in the morning, and often in a nesting box, which is a huge bonus compared to many other duck breeds we’ve raised who either lay their eggs anywhere on the ground so the guardian dogs often find them before we do, or who hide a nest in order to hatch ducklings.

Our Magpies forage throughout the day, often working hard to clean pests from the pasture behind the cows and like all the ducks we’ve raised, they make sure to keep any standing water within their reach free from mosquito larvae – which means no itchy bites for us!

Though the Magpies all look similar to each other, there is variations in their pattern and that has been fun for our children, since they love to name each bird and they can easily distinguish the birds from each other by the color pattern. The pattern is also visible immediately when they hatch since their fluff has the same pattern each duckling will retain into adulthood.

Estimated Shipping Date

Your estimated shipping date is based on the orders we have received and how many eggs we anticipate. It is reflected on your order, which can be viewed by going to your My Account page and clicking on your order.

If you placed your order before hatching egg season has begun, the date will be blank until the season starts in March. If you placed your order during hatching egg season, this may be blank for up to a week after you have submitted your order.

We ship first come first served for each breed and will update our estimated dates each week after we finish shipping orders for the week. Your estimated shipping date may change depending on how many eggs our hens provide and we will update your date if needed.

Please do not place an order with us if you are not prepared to wait to receive your hatching eggs. While we do try to fill orders as quickly as possible, we are a small family farm focused on producing high quality chickens and hatching eggs. We are NOT a hatchery that will ship your order out the day it is received.

We only open up orders for as many hatching eggs as we expect to be able to fill about one month out. Once we have received about a month worth of orders, the hatching eggs will be listed as out of stock until we make progress on filling those orders. You can add your name to the waiting list on the product page if you would like to be notified when they are available for ordering again, just look for the “notify me” button and enter your email address. There is no obligation to buy if you’re on the waiting list.
