North Woods Pioneer-P, DNA Verified Purebred Mini Jersey (BBR93), 36 inches at 1 year old, A1A2 BB AB

Pioneer came to us from North Woods Homestead in Idaho; it was a long but uneventful four day hauling trip! We came across Pioneer when we realized the bulls we had access to locally were pure but producing mostly mid-sized calves. We started searching for a Mini Jersey bull with high Jersey purity and the ability to maintain smaller stature in the next generation. During our search we connected with North Woods Homestead and the Purebred Mini Jersey Society. PMJS taught us how to utilize genomic testing instead of only using observable traits to work toward our breeding goals.
At first we weren’t considering purchasing Pioneer because our family can only drink A2A2 milk, and Pioneer’s milk proteins are A1A2 but as we connected with more Mini Jersey cattle lovers, we realized there are many families who don’t notice any concerns when they drink A1A2 milk. We felt confident in utilizing Pioneer’s small stature, excellent temperament and generations of grass-fed genetics to complement our cows, knowing that we could find good homes for any calves that inherit an A1 gene.
